About Me
Hi, I’m Max! I’m a therapist based in Victoria BC, though I see people virtually from all over the province. I started my journey to become a counsellor fifteen years ago during a “dark night of the soul.” During that time, I had a career in the book industry, but realized that I wanted a career change. I spent months trying to figure out a profession that would have spiritual meaning for me, and counselling is what I realized would be an excellent fit.
I have been on my own mental health journey, including many hours spent in therapy myself. When I was 17 I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, which is something that I have wrestled with my whole life. I have what we in the field call “lived experience” with many mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, mania and psychosis. It’s been a hard ride, but I’m glad to be here with you!
As a counsellor, I practice an eclectic approach to therapy. I borrow from many different therapies, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Brainspotting and Jungian Therapy, but my main interest is Existential Therapy. I believe that addressing the big, existential questions can bring clarity and act as a protective factor in a person’s mental health. If this sounds like it would be a good fit for you, please connect with me below!
